Local Information
Leeds Art Gallery
There are many works of art at public sites around the city if Leeds. Over the course of time we aim to record as many as possible. Their details along with photos and research will be published on this website. It's quite a challenge and will take some time. However our intention is to publish them as we go along, thus providing an excellent reason for making regular visits to our website.
The Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House
Built in 1878 this beautiful building inside and out, is a wonderful venue to watch a live performance. Seating 1550 at full capacity, the auditorium provides a home for performances of all types. An enormous range of notable dance, drama, comedy and music productions have been seen at the Grand.
The Royal Armouries
The Royal Armouries is home to the United Kingdom’s national collection of arms and armour, including artillery. As a museum we have a duty of care for these objects, to keep them, study them and increase our knowledge of them, so that this can be passed to future generations along with the objects themselves.
Kirkstall Abbey
Visit one of the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in the country and step back in time to see how the monks lived. Enjoy a visit to Kirkstall Abbey, one of the most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey in Britain. Set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire, Kirkstall Abbey boasts historic architecture amid a haven of wildlife and greenery.
The Museum of Modern Medicine
The award-winning Thackray Museum is one of the UK's leading medical museums, telling the story of medicine and explaining how advances in medicine are changing our lives.
